The HELLP is on the way

THE HELLP is not your typical boyband. Noah and Chandler are stick-skinny and hard to ignore with their long hair, skinny jeans, big shades, and cowboy boots. Their no-fucks-given attitudes and sleek aesthetic feel equal parts Sid Vicious and Hedi Slimane.

In the age of corporate music executives who favor artists producing family-friendly TikTok jingles, THE HELLP isn't trying to play the game. The LA duo mix eclectic rock, electronic, and country influences to craft ballads that sound like Mick Jagger and Aphex Twin's musical lovechild from the future.

Noah Dillon and Chandler Lucy met through their day jobs in the fashion industry and bonded over shared loves of Bruce Springsteen and Crystal Castles as well as their similar upbringings working at grocery stores and on construction sites in small-town America. Noah is a photographer and videographer by training who has shot for Maison Margiela and Off-White, and has consulted personally for Kanye West; Chandler is a model and artist who was the face of a Midnight Studios lookbook and recently featured in a Theophilus London music video. Both are quintessential LA characters who have become mainstays in the city's vibrant creative scene.

"THE HELLP isn't trying to play the game."

THE HELLP's first songs were raw but possessed unbridled energy that quickly garnered a cult following amongst Los Angeles skater kids and fashion world tastemakers. Their 2019 twin EPs Bruce and Curtis generated underground buzz as much for their energetic songs as for the enticing, provocative music videos, all directed and produced by the band members. THE HELLP parlayed their initial success into a residence at Silverlake hotspot Tenants of the Trees, hosting weekly parties with frequent celebrity attendees -- it's not uncommon to see Diplo, Kendall Jenner, or Tremaine Emory at their gigs and DJ sets.

THE HELLP's cool but self-deprecating aesthetic might be attributable to their unique position in the LA landscape. Through their positions in the fashion world, they're connected to some of the biggest names in young Hollywood but have also been open about recent periods in which they've been broke, crashing on air mattresses and friends' couches. This seeming contradiction is clearly expressed in their unconventional, self-referential style that mixes high fashion with nods to a distinctly internet-savy irony. On a typical day, THE HELLP might be rocking Off-White shirts with pieces from Goodwill, or pairing Rick Owens hi-tops with beat-up trucker hats.

These days, THE HELLP are in the studio working with producers Shlohmo and Lecx Stacy on a new EP, due out June 5th. With this new project, they're hoping to stay true to the earnest and frenetic energy that defines their music while reaching new fans across the country and around the world. From the sound of it, we're excited to see what’s next for one of LA's coolest (and best dressed) bands.
