The Nonstop Creativity of Rhuigi Villaseñor
Rhuigi Villaseñor can’t be stopped, leveraging the success of his label Rhude to take on a design partnership with Puma Select and a creative director role at Bally. We caught up with the designer at his most recent show in Paris.
Rhuigi Villaseñor initially burst onto the scene with his streetwear-influenced label Rhude, turning heads with its unique designs and attention to quality. While many brands rose and fell in the heyday of streetwear Rhuigi proved that he was more than just a one-trick-pony, expertly navigating the brand into a more elevated space while still maintaining the design ethos that had garnered it so much attention and praise. With a carefully crafted aesthetic and the co-sign of celebrities like Jay-Z, Rhuigi has gradually become a vocal and visible voice in the fashion world, representing a new approach that is design driven, but also relatable. A partnership with Puma Select speaks to his ability to cater to a wider audience, and a two-season long creative director role at Bally that has helped bring that brand back into the cultural consciousness speaks to his ability to also continue to operate at a high level of influence. Again and again Rhuigi is proving he’s not simply content to rest on his laurels, but is looking to build his own vision of the future.
