Next Steps with Jackson Myles
TALKING DANCING, MUSIC AND WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE VIRAL STAR
When Jackson Myles first started posting videos of himself dancing people were convinced he was using special effects. The stuttering yet smooth style that Myles uses called ‘animation’, became an online sensation that garnered praise from the likes of Michael B. Jordan and Justin Bieber. Growing up in North Carolina, Myles never took dance lessons and yet, even from a young age he considered himself a dancer – pouring over hours of YouTube videos to teach himself. This self-taught, DIY attitude has catapulted multiple of his videos into viral sensations and is at the heart of what makes Myles stand out amongst the sea of dancers on TikTok and Instagram.
Before his online success even came to be, Jackson dropped out of college and started traveling to several cities on his own dollar. He would travel to Atlanta and Los Angeles just to do what he loves and to collaborate with some of the coolest dancers on Instagram. Myles then decided to move to LA to make a career out of his skills. He’s not afraid to take risks and break from the norm to try something different. “Dancing is part of who I am, in my mind it already was something I did full time before I ever actually took it full time."
One fan of Myles’ was the late Virgil Abloh. After seeing Jackson’s videos, Abloh flew him out to Paris for the Louis Vuitton and Off-White shows and had Myles perform at one of his after parties. Myles’ dad joined him in Paris, yet – Carey Reid AKA Pops, who travels with him everywhere and is featured in several of Myles’ videos is far from the overbearing parent. Reid isn’t there to strictly monitor his son, but to protect him and be by his side while enjoying every magical moment they experience together. “He’s such a good kid, working so hard. I’m lucky, there’s so many kids his age gangbanging, I could be going down to the prison to see my son instead of going to Paris and shoots like this.”
Even as Jackson’s dance career began taking off, he was already looking for new challenges. In 2021 Myles began to write and record music with his single “Dior Body” going viral and getting the attention of Kim Jones, earning him an invite to the Dior Show. These early accolades have done little to quell Myles hunger for more, “music is so similar to dancing, I’ve been doing it for a little while now and it still feels like I’m just getting started” said Myles. The biggest point of focus for Myles right now is emphasizing and appreciating the positives – he has his dancing on lock, a burgeoning music career, and a supportive family. It’s understandable why Jackson is always smiling.
