Cordell Broadus is difficult to define. The son of notorious Long Beach rapper, Snoop Dogg, Broadus has dabbled in everything from athletics to the arts, but his true calling might be behind the scenes. Over the past few years, Broadus has shifted away from performing and taken a more business-driven approach to his creative endeavors.

We met with Broadus at his family's Inglewood compound, which in true Snoop style, was filled with vintage cars, recording equipment, a game room, an indoor basketball court, and enough weed paraphernalia to satisfy a small country. As we chatted, we were blown away by how many projects the young businessman is currently juggling. At the helm of both a newly minted record label and a busy production company, Broadus is managing to keep busy. Yet as he described each project, it quickly became clear there was more to his motivation than just turning a profit.

His label, Real Queen Sound, was created with the idea of signing all female artists in hopes of breaking some of the sexist stereotypes of the music industry, and his production company just recently released a short film whose premier doubled as a charity event supporting youth athletics. These ventures share a thoughtfulness that is key to Broadus’ motivations.

“I’m trying to be a different type of role model,” Broadus says as we sit in a studio and he plays us some unreleased tracks, “growing up the only role models that looked like me were musicians and athletes, I want to show kids that there are different ways to be successful, that you can be something else.”

This compassionate element of his is what drives Broadus. Despite balancing a slew of upcoming ventures, being a father, and the hardships we’ve all experienced this crazy year, Broadus is hungry to continue to grow his empire and become a versatile role model that people can look up to.
